Appliances

When you purchase a new appliance, don’t forget to decide what will happen to the old. In some cases an appliance has some extra life and could be gifted or sold to someone else. If not, we are here to help by properly recycling old appliances. When appliances are not properly recycled, they can end up in landfills or worse in your backyard. This can have a number of negative environmental impacts, including:

Pollution of soil and water. The materials used to make appliances can leach into the soil and water, contaminating these resources.

Release of greenhouse gases. Appliances contain a number of harmful chemicals, such as refrigerants and foam blowing agents. When these chemicals are released into the environment, they contribute to our changing climate.

Waste of resources. The materials used to make appliances are valuable resources. When these materials are not recycled, they are wasted.

By properly recycling old appliances, we can help to reduce these negative environmental impacts. Hunter's Furniture & Appliance offers a recycling program for old appliances. This program helps to ensure that old appliances are properly recycled, and that the materials they are made of are not wasted.

Appliances

Here are some of the benefits of recycling old appliances with Hunter's Furniture & Appliance:

  • It helps to protect the environment.

When appliances are recycled, the materials they are made of can be reused, which reduces the need to extract new resources from the earth. This helps to conserve natural resources and reduce pollution.

  • It saves space in landfills.

Appliances take up a lot of space in landfills. Recycling these items helps to free up space in landfills, which can extend their lifespan and reduce the need to create new landfills.

  • It reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

The production of new appliances requires a lot of energy. Recycling these items helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change.

Mattresses

Mattresses & Foundations

Mattresses and foundations (box springs) are large and bulky items that can take up a lot of space in landfills. They can also take hundreds of years to decompose. Properly recycling old mattresses and box springs helps to reduce these environmental impacts. When mattresses and foundations are recycled, the materials they are made of can be reused, which reduces the need to extract new resources from the earth. This helps to conserve resources and reduce pollution.

Cardboard

Everything we sell has some amount of cardboard packaging. In fact, over half of packaging waste that comes with furniture and appliances is cardboard. To reduce the amount of trash we produce, we bail and recycle all of our cardboard. Recycling cardboard helps to conserve natural resources, reduce pollution, and save space in landfills. Cardboard is made from trees, so recycling cardboard helps to conserve our forests. It takes about 17 trees to make a ton of paper, so recycling just one ton of cardboard can save 17 trees. We hope to further reduce our waste by finding ways to recycle the other packaging materials.
